"So, what are you going to major in?" ... The question comes from your parents, teachers, relatives, guidance counselors, friends, pastors, and sometimes a random stranger on the street (the latter is relatively unlikely, but hey, you never know). You probably fall into one of these categories:

1) You know the answer right away. For as long as you can remember you have always wanted to be a ________ (doctor, teacher, beet farmer, etc).

2) You think you want to be in one profession, but also have interests in other areas.

3) You simply have no idea.

Well, I've got some good news for you ... YOU DON'T HAVE TO KNOW RIGHT NOW! At Maryville College you do not have to declare your major right away. You have time to figure out what you're interested in and take some classes. You have time to explore and by the time you declare your major, you will feel confident in your decision.

Maryville College has over 60 programs of study - we have a lot to choose from. You can read more about it on Blount Today's website! They call their business "In The Bag Delivers"

If I'm not mistaken he was also a Bonner and I believe that's why he decided to continue with the non-profit route! I love it :) It's so much fun to see where Maryville College students take their lives.

___________________________________________________________________

As far as other stuff for Seniors/Incoming Freshman??? Have you gotten your financial aid packages?! They've started to go out so make sure that you have filled out the FAFSA and been accepted and you should get your financial aid package in the mail and in your e-mail. Our advisors are going through each package with the students but since each of us have several students it may take us a while to get to you. I know I'm doing my calls alphabetically and I'm only on "C". So if you'd like to go over your financial aid package with your advisor over the phone please feel free to call us during the day and we would be more than happy to do that for you!

Hope you all are having a great senior year. See you on campus soon!

--Emily Emadian '09Maryville College Advisorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07964694025072187288noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7474410428329391253.post-70026417268098793252010-03-19T11:39:00.005-04:002010-03-19T12:24:03.221-04:00Hello all!If you are on Spring Break this week I hope it was fantastic! That step is financial aid. Financial aid packages for students started going out the beginning of this week. The financail aid office has done an excellent job of getting the packages out early. The Admssions team has started contacting those students who have been packaged so if you have not heard from us yet... you will!!!!! There are a few ways to make this process run smoothly for both ends:

1. Read- Yes you should read everything on the MC financial aid page not just what rewards and money you recieved. There is a ton of helpful information on that page that might answer some of your quesions before we call.

2. Be prepared- Fill out the Cost Worksheet that is available on that page and save it. We are going to have you fill it out anyways so you might as well have it ready.

3. Talk- Talk about your options with your family. We have several different payment options to make the MC experience very affordable.

-Quinn Bradley'08
Maryville College Advisorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07964694025072187288noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7474410428329391253.post-90541395714735908262010-03-05T14:15:00.005-05:002010-03-05T15:05:28.951-05:00MC Concert Choir

The Maryville College Concert Choir begins thier tour over MC's spring break. All of our students have finished their finals and went home last week. So, now we are going through lots of applications and we hope to see yours soon, if you haven't already sent it in! If you are planning to work on your application over the holidays please don't forget to request that your transcripts go out! Scholarship and award applications are due no later than January 15th or February 1st, depending on the scholarship or award. In order to apply for scholarships or financial aid, you have to be accepted to MC, so that means that you should apply today!

Maryville College is now on the Common Application, which is an online application that is accepted by 400+ colleges and universities across the United States. If you are applying to more than one Common App school, you are in luck! You'll be able to fill out one online application and send it to as many Common App schools as you want (remember, each school has separate requirements and application fees). In addition to the application to Maryville College, you will need to submit your official high school transcripts, official score reports from the ACT and/or SAT, a one page essay on a topic of your choice, and a $25 application fee.

To create your Common App account, go here: https://www.commonapp.org/

To find out more information about applying to Maryville College, go here: http://www.maryvillecollege.edu/admissions/apply.asp?id=1

Let us know if you have any questions. I was really excited to be a part of our first big fine arts weekend. Here's a little bit of what happened!

Friday Night--

We had some of our current students put on a performance for prospective students and their families. It was wonderful! Patrick Finney, a junior Music Theory and Composition student, played a guitar piece that was similar to the stylistic playings that are demonstrated in the movie "August Rush". Will Yager, also a junior Music Major, played a classical upright bass piece with our accompanist Jennifer Olander and a jazz composition with our Jazz Pianist Bill Swann. Sharon Lankford, a senior Vocal Performance major, put on a stunning performance of an aria. Our Maryville College Jazz Band closed out the evening with their rendition of "Sly" and "You're My Everything". All in all I think it was a very entertaining night and I think prospective students got a good taste of the talent that Maryville College has!

Saturday Day--

We had a really successful Meet Maryville! Tons of students and their parents came. It was a beautiful day, no rain at all! The students got to go on our AlternaTour, pick from educational sessions to sit in on, and eat lunch on campus! This Meet Maryville was special because after it was over, students and parents were allowed a tour of our new Clayton Center for the Arts. Let me just say..it is breathtaking!

Saturday Night--

The Invitational Choir Festival was scheduled for after the Meet Maryville. Maryville College has hosted the Invitational Choir Festival for local high schools for over five years! I think it is a great opportunity for area high schools to come together and perform for each other. This year William Blount High School, Farragut High School, Lenoir City High School, Aloca High School, and Powell High School were all participants. The talent that these schools portrayed was phenomenal! I was so excited to see all the choir directors and their students. After the high schools, the Maryville College Concert Choir performed three pieces and finally Off Kilter brought down the house with "My Girl", "Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da", and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight".

If you weren't able to attend this week make sure to go on our webiste www.maryvillecollege.edu to find more information about upcoming performances from our ensembles, students, and faculty! The Maryville College Concert Choir is having their Fall Concert on November 20! Be sure to attend!Maryville College Advisorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07964694025072187288noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7474410428329391253.post-36353567062920590032009-10-28T12:39:00.006-04:002009-10-28T13:18:03.658-04:00It's time to Meet Maryville!Hey Seniors! I've been on the road visiting hundreds of wonderful students for the last seven weeks! I have had a blast meeting many of you in Kentucky, Alabama, North Carolina, and Nashville, TN. Now, it's back to the office to meet with many of you individually, which I'm really excited about!

This week will be a very busy week though. As I mentioned in the title of this blog, this week is "Free Application Week" at Maryville College. So, we are expecting many applications to be flooding in! Normally, it is only $25 to apply, which isn't bad, but free is always better, right?! So, if you are a senior and even the slightest bit interested in Maryville College I highly suggest applying this week while the fee is being waived.

Also, if you haven't visited our campus yet you should definitely come see us soon! We are having a tailgate on Saturday, October 31 at 12:00PM before our Scots football team takes on Greensboro College. Many of our coaches will be there as well if you are interested in speaking with them. We will also be having another Meet Maryville (open house) on Saturday, November 7. So we have lots of opportunities coming up for you to come see our lovely campus!

Maryville College is beautiful all year long, but fall is definitely my favorite! All of our trees on campus turn gorgeous shades of red, orange, and yellow and the mountains in the background just make Maryville College the prettiest place to be in the fall! We would love for you to come experience the beauty as well!

Anyway, now that I'm back on campus, I would love the opportunity to meet with you and your family individually. So, please come see us soon and don't forget to apply this week if you are a senior!

Sincerely,
Michelle Wilson '08Maryville College Advisorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07964694025072187288noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7474410428329391253.post-4780548375551606742009-10-14T12:01:00.001-04:002009-10-15T12:14:44.988-04:00Cincinnati, OH!This is the first year that I have been an admissions advisor and as much as I like traveling I thought this was the perfect job for me! I was right...but I have learned a lot from traveling this month.

1. Always remember which direction you're traveling...if going North--take a jacket.
2. Mapquest is amazing and surprisingly accurate.
3. Get directions both to AND from destinations
4. If the hotel has a workout room...you're in good hands.
5. Subway is my new best lunch friend.

Today I drove up from Maryville, TN to Ohio to visit high schools and attend the Cincinnati Performing Arts Fair. The drive up was about four and a half hours and it was a beautiful drive...minus all the rain. I have never been to Cincinnati to stay so I wasn't sure what to expect. I also didn't take into consideration the fact that I was driving North and it was getting colder and colder...should've taken a jacket.

The fair at the University of Cincinnati was great once I got there! I spent about 45 minutes driving around in circles trying to find the building. Finally, I parked my car and waited for a student to help point me in the right direction. The campus is HUGE...probably about four times as big as Maryville's campus. I wasn't used to getting lost on a college/university campus. Eventually I found the building and I was still early so I set up my things and waited for the students to arrive. When they did, they came with gusto! Students were ready with questions and labels to stick on inquiry sheets. I had several students talk to me and one interested student fill out a card for me to send her some more informaiton.

All in all, Cincinnati, I give you four stars. Now back to rainy Tennessee.

--Emily Emadian '09Maryville College Advisorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07964694025072187288noreply@blogger.com0
