What are you going to major in?

How many times have you heard this question? ... "So, what are you going to major in?" ... The question comes from your parents, teachers, relatives, guidance counselors, friends, pastors, and sometimes a random stranger on the street (the latter is relatively unlikely, but hey, you never know). You probably fall into one of these categories:

1) You know the answer right away. For as long as you can remember you have always wanted to be a ________ (doctor, teacher, beet farmer, etc).

2) You think you want to be in one profession, but also have interests in other areas.

3) You simply have no idea.

Well, I've got some good news for you ... YOU DON'T HAVE TO KNOW RIGHT NOW! At Maryville College you do not have to declare your major right away. You have time to figure out what you're interested in and take some classes. You have time to explore and by the time you declare your major, you will feel confident in your decision.

Maryville College has over 60 programs of study - we have a lot to choose from. Check these out:

What To Do When You Graduate

So I know that our blogs should be geared toward incoming freshman and all...but I just think this is so cool!

One of the guys I went to school with (he just graduated in May as well) started this non-profit organization that I think is awesome. You can read more about it on Blount Today's website! They call their business "In The Bag Delivers"

If I'm not mistaken he was also a Bonner and I believe that's why he decided to continue with the non-profit route! I love it :) It's so much fun to see where Maryville College students take their lives.

___________________________________________________________________

As far as other stuff for Seniors/Incoming Freshman??? Have you gotten your financial aid packages?! They've started to go out so make sure that you have filled out the FAFSA and been accepted and you should get your financial aid package in the mail and in your e-mail. Our advisors are going through each package with the students but since each of us have several students it may take us a while to get to you. I know I'm doing my calls alphabetically and I'm only on "C". So if you'd like to go over your financial aid package with your advisor over the phone please feel free to call us during the day and we would be more than happy to do that for you!

Hope you all are having a great senior year. See you on campus soon!

Financial Aid Packages

One of the most important steps to finding the right school can often be the most confusing part as well. That step is financial aid. Financial aid packages for students started going out the beginning of this week. The financail aid office has done an excellent job of getting the packages out early. The Admssions team has started contacting those students who have been packaged so if you have not heard from us yet... you will!!!!! There are a few ways to make this process run smoothly for both ends:
1. Read- Yes you should read everything on the MC financial aid page not just what rewards and money you recieved. There is a ton of helpful information on that page that might answer some of your quesions before we call.
2. Be prepared- Fill out the Cost Worksheet that is available on that page and save it. We are going to have you fill it out anyways so you might as well have it ready.
3. Talk- Talk about your options with your family. We have several different payment options to make the MC experience very affordable.

Scholarship Deadline Approaching

Hello fellow blog followers!

Now that the excitement of the Creative Arts Competition is winding down and we're getting closer to the scholarship deadlines I wanted to be sure to let you all know where to find the applications!

http://www.maryvillecollege.edu/admissions/finaid/forms.asp

Make sure that you know that you can apply for as many scholarships as you're eligible for! And also remember that some awards actually STACK on top of the big scholarships! This is the best time to be filling out the scholarship applications if you haven't already.

Also...don't forget that your enrollment deposit is refundable by May 1st so if you haven't already submitted that...now would be a good time for that as well.

While you're thinking about all the financial aid stuff for all colleges also be sure to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application For Student Aid) in order to be eligible for need-based money. The sooner you fill it out the better!

On an unfortunate note...the Meet Maryville scheduled for January 30th has been canceled because of the inclement weather that they are predicting. We have not decided whether or not we are going to reschedule the Meet Maryville but students are encouraged to still come visit campus! There are several Saturday Visits that are coming up as well and it will give students a very similar experience. The next Saturday Visit that is coming up is the one on February 13th.

There are a lot of exciting things happening around Maryville right now. Be sure to contact your admissions advisor with any questions that you may have. Remember...there is no application deadline for admission! Even if you haven't started the application...there is still time to submit one and get accepted.

We always look forward to receiving your applications!!
